USQ's Sustainability Alive Competition will enable you to research or explain how science and technology are integral to sustaining our environment, society, business, development and other aspects of our everyday lives.

Why should you enter?

You will:

  • Conduct your own research or communicate or apply research
  • Develop research and communication skills
  • Discuss your project with experts
  • Be eligible for great prizes
  • Meet other students who enjoyed doing a research project
  • Have a fun day at the Sustainability Alive Competition
  • Have the option to submit your entry to the Science Teachers of Queensland Science Contest later in the year.

Are the winners awarded prizes?

Monetary prizes will be awarded for the 1st and 2nd in each age division for each of the categories, and these will be awarded on Friday 6 August at the Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre. In addition, all entries will receive a certificate of participation that will be mailed to Schools for individual distribution.

The age division and applicable monetary prizes are as follows:

 Age Division  1st Prize  2nd Prize
 Division 1 (Grades 5-7)  up to $125  up to $50
 Division 2 (Grades 8-10)  up to $250  up to $75
 Division 3 (Grades 11-12)  up to $500  up to $100


Projects completed as part of the USQ Sustainability Alive Competition may be entered in the Queensland Science Contest, and subsequent science competitions. Students are advised to make copies of their entry prior to submitting in for judging, in the event that the entry is lost or damaged.

How do I enter?

  1. Talk to your teacher of the Science Head of Department at your school.
  2. Find an sustainability topic that interests you from one of the following categories: Communicating ScienceTechnological Models and Inventions, and Scientific Investigations.
  3. Follow the guidelines for that category.
  4. Ask your school to complete the registration details.
