BNUR students commencing in 2009
The following information is provided to assist you in planning your commencement of the Bachelor of Nursing (Pre-Registration) program. Students entering into the second year (either for exemptions as an EN, EEN, International Registered Nurse or as a transfer student) should refer to their enrolment plans.
Semester 2 2009 Enrolment
It is your responsibility to enrol in courses as soon as possible. This will assist in timetabling for projected numbers in each course.
An enrolment guide is provided to ensure you understand the steps required to complete the enrolment process. Once you are familiar with the steps to enrol, you can enrol online via UConnect. Please check your enrolment details to ensure they are correct. If you are unable to enrol online, please email sciences.enrolment@usq.edu.au.
Class requirements
The Semester 2 2009 Timetable is available: Toowoomba or Fraser Coast.
The timetable allows you to plan your on-campus requirements in conjunction with your personal commitments. It is developed according to the standard enrolment pattern. You will note that there are times for lectures and tutorials. These sessions are all part of the planned delivery of your program, and your participation and attendance is expected. Please check individual course specifications for information about mandatory attendance requirements, course content, textbooks and projected on-campus and private study hours. Courses in the Bachelor of Nursing use tutorial sessions and lab sessions for teaching.
First-year courses will depend on what progression students wish to take. Students should base their Semester 1 enrolment on the following patterns:
Semester 2 enrolment patterns are based on the following:
Exemptions
If you are a student with prior University study, an Enrolled Nurse or Endorsed Enrolled nurse, and are applying for exemptions based on prior training, work experience and/or study, you will need to complete an Application for Exemption/Transfer Credit form and lodge with Student Administration. When submitting this application please ensure you provide a certified copy of the official academic transcript of your results, a certified copy of your enrolment certificate and/or an official statement of work experience if applicable. If you have any questions, please contact Student Administration.

Orientation
Refer to the USQ Orientation website for information relating to orientation for each campus.
Bridging Courses
Some students find the science component of the Bachelor of Nursing degree at USQ a challenge, particularly if it has been some time since they studied science subjects in high school. The Learning Centre at USQ offers a two day bridging course in Chemistry at both campuses during semester three to ease this transition. This is available prior to semester one. Students who commenced in mid-year may also take this course prior to studying NUR1500.
Textbooks and materials
A list of required text books and resources for each course is listed within the course specifications.
For science courses all students require a white, long sleeved laboratory coat and closed-in shoes. Students commencing clinical (second year students) will require a clinical uniform and stethoscope.
Second Year Entry, EEN's and International Registered Nurses
Students commencing in second year will need to follow the enrolment pattern which is appropriate for the exemptions which have been awarded.
- If you are an international Registered nurse who has been granted exemptions you will be given your enrolment pattern when you enrol in courses during the USQ International sessions.
- If you are an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse with the standard 8 exemptions please follow the pattern as given in the chart above.
Clinical Requirements
Visit the Clincal Website.
General Information
Please continue to check the Bachelor of Nursing Community site on your Study Desk for updates about clinical (when study desk becomes available to you).
Clinical Placement Selection
All Clinical placements are allocated utilising a program called ‘Sonia'. The program allows students to look at all the available placements for a particular clinical course and then enter their top 5 preferences. The system then allocates who will go to which placement with consideration of those preferences. (There are no guarantees – particular placements depend on availability and the student demand for those places)
First Year BNUR students
The first clinical course you will take is NUR2099: Clinical A Assessment and Care in Semester 2, 2009. You will not go out on clinical in Semester 1, 09, but you will have requirements to submit during this semester in order to be eligible for clinical – these will be fully explained in your course NUR1140.
Second and Third Year BNUR students
Students who are entering at second year may be taking a clinical course in their first semester. This requires urgency to fulfil all clinical requirements so that self selection of placement via SONIA can occur.
The Clinical Calendars are different for each campus; please check the Clinical Calendar for your campus.
Some clinical offerings are open to Accelerated Progression students only. These particular clinical blocks are marked on the clinical Calendars for each campus and cannot be used by standard progression students due to limited places.
Clinical E must be taken in the final semester before graduation.
