Scholarships, prizes and support

Scholarships

USQ grants a wide range of scholarships to students undertaking bachelor degrees and postgraduate degrees who are Australian citizens or holders of permanent resident visas.

Government and professional bodies also offer a number of scholarships for tertiary study in the field of nursing. These include:

Many of these scholarships focus on encouraging students from regional and rural areas to study nursing, while others encourage students to practice nursing in regional and rural areas. Some scholarships not only provide financial assistance to students but also offer clinical experience in these areas.

Prizes

The Faculty of Sciences offers a number of prizes for nursing students.

Nursing Support Program

We have in place several support systems, from individual assistance to group sessions. First-year students are encouraged to attend one or both of the basic mathematics and chemistry skills workshops which are specifically developed for entry nursing students.

Indigenous Health at USQ

The Department of Nursing and Midwifery fully supports the inclusion of an Australian Indigenous curriculum and is committed to supporting Indigenous nursing students through the provision of Indigenous academic staff and also Indigenous support staff (tutors) who are available to support students through the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS).

Australian Indigenous students have the opportunity to participate in fortnightly support groups. These are conducted by academic staff and are a source of academic and personal support if required.
