Community and school outreach

USQ Astronomy for Schools

The USQ Astronomy in Schools program (PDF 380KB) involves an astronomer with a portable telescope visiting a school or community group to give a talk and conduct astronomical observations, weather permitting. Observations can be conducted at the USQ Toowoomba campus observatory or another location either:

  • during the day - comprise solar observing using a special telescopic filter
  • during the evening - evening telescopic observations aim to provide views of solar system and other objects (as conditions allow).

This service is run on a cost-recovery basis, and applicable fee will be determined by distance travelled and hours of staff time required.

Free public astronomy lectures

USQ provides occasional free public astronomy lectures for USQ, school and community groups and the general public. These are presented by a visiting astronomer or USQ staff member.  Please contact us if you would like to be included on this distribution list.
