Environmental monitoring
Environmental monitoring refers to any automated sensors that measure physical parameters of our environment, including the atmosphere.
Environmental conditions
The Department's environmental monitoring network provides current weather data for the Toowoomba area. This data includes temperature, wind speed/direction, humidity, barometric pressure, wind chill, dew point and daily rainfall (updated every 15 minutes); sunshine and cloud information (updated every 5 minutes).
While all weather and cloud information is provided as a guide only, staff endeavour, through quality assurance procedures, to provide accurate data at all times.
Data provided by the environmental monitoring network supports teaching (PHY1102 Remote Sensing and Meteorology) and research activities by USQ staff and students. Local schools, city councils and other government agencies also draw on the weather and cloud information provided.
