What is Sustainability Science?

Sustainability science is an emerging multi-disciplinary approach to science and resource management that focuses on the dynamic interactions between nature and society.  Sustainability Science aims to develop a deeper and more fundamental understanding of the rapidly growing inter-dependence of the nature-society system.

The graduate coursework programs in Sustainability Science provide a broad foundation in traditional environmental science that is closely integrated with social and economic aspects.  the programs are only available by external (distance) study).

Career opportunities

The postgraduate programs in Sustainability Science aim to provide environmental and resource managers and other professionals with appropriate formal instruction to enhance their skills and knowledge in the emerging discipline of sustainability science.  Graduates may expect to find employment with both government and non-government organisations in diverse roles ranging from ecologists/environmental scientists and natural resource managers to policy planning and implementation.

Research

Academic staff contributing to sustainability science reflect the multi-disciplinary nature of the field and are drawn from the Faculties of Sciences, Business, Engineering and Surveying and Arts.  Acadeimc staff are active and productive in research related to sustainability science and many are associated with the Australian Centre for Sustainable Catchments at USQ.
