Resources for schools
Since its inception, the Shakespeare in the Park Festival has offered a variety of opportunities for school engagement.
School Workshops
In 2006, the inaugural School Workshops Day saw hundreds of upper primary and secondary school students from Toowoomba and the Darling Downs region converge on Queens Park to participate in theatre-type activities run by theatre professionals and educators from across Queensland.
Since then, the workshops have grown, evolved and even toured.
In 2010, the Festival will offer secondary school workshops to compliment the mainstage production of Twelfth Night in both Toowoomba and Hervey Bay:
Teachers' Notes
Through the history of the Festival, a comprehensive set of Teachers' Notes have been compiled to accompany the mainstage productions:
Hamlet (2004)
The Taming of the Shrew (2005)
The Comedy of Errors (2006)
Macbeth (2007)
The Tempest (2009) and
Tempest in a Teacup (2009).
Black Box Shakespeare
As a prequel to the Festival, in October of the preceding year, the soon-to-be stars of the mainstage (ie USQ's 2nd year Acting troupe) tour Black Box Shakespeare into secondary schools throughout South East Queensland. These in-school performances offer all year levels a wonderfully accessible and engaging introduction to the Bard.
