Lewis JonesLewis Jones has worked for over ten years as a freelance director and producer both in Brisbane and interstate.

His work as a director began in 1996 with Matrix Theatre’s production of Frank McGuinness's Someone Who'll Watch Over Me, for which he received a Matilda Award. Later that same year, he directed Bouncers for his own company, someone. There have been a number of highly successful productions under the someone banner, including Two by Jim Cartwright, Sweet Phoebe by Michael Gow, Dark Heart at the Tap Gallery Sydney and four seasons of the notorious He Died With A Felafel In His Hand adapted from John Birmingham's best-selling book.

For La Boite Theatre, he has directed The John Wayne Principle, First Asylum, After January, The Removalists and Secret Bridesmaids' Business. Other directing credits include Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing [Opera Queensland], Acis and Galatea [USQ Opera School], Gianni Schicchi [Queensland Conservatorium] and Hamlet [Matrix Theatre/QPAC].

In 2006, Lewis returned to the stage to play George in La Boite's production of Perfect Skin.

Recent directing credits include The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee at The Roundhouse Theatre in Brisbane [Matilda Award winner – Best Musical 2008], Women in Voice 17 at QPAC and Choice, featuring Amanda-Lyn Pearson, which toured with the Queensland Arts Council.

Lewis is the Artistic Director of The Empire Theatres, having begun his association with the theatre in 2006 directing Sweet Charity. Since then, he has directed Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret and most recently, Singin’ in the Rain. In his role as Artistic Director, he heads up The Empire Theatre Projects Company, which is dedicated to developing participation in the performing arts in Toowoomba and South West Queensland.
