This species seems to prefer habitats where there is plenty of moisture, notably along creek banks. Avella resembles Deinopis species but is smaller and does not have a pair of enlarged eyes as Deinopis does.
Spider(s) with a very similar appearance: Deinopis subrufa, Deinopis ravida, and Tetragnatha species such as Tetragnatha demissa.
