Pathway programs

Domestic Pathway Programs

These days 40% of University students are over 25. Therefore, it is essential that pathways are made available to those who have not completed Year 12, or those who have not studied for many years. At USQ Springfield, there are two major pathways that are available to such students.

USQ Tertiary Preparation Program

The University's Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP) is an external program which seeks to enable such students to successfully transition into university life. Each year, there will be a number of on-campus TPP workshops available on Saturday mornings to assist local domestic students progress through their TPP course.

Students who successfully complete the Tertiary Preparation Program are guaranteed entry to USQ undergraduate programs or receive a Tertiary Entrance score which can be used to apply for a place at other Universities.

International Pathway Programs

If international students do not yet satisfy the academic prerequisites or English Language proficiency requirements for automatic entry, the University of Southern Queensland at Springfield has a number of pathways available.

Foundation Studies Program

The Foundation Studies Program offers a pathway into the University for students from non-English speaking backgrounds who have not completed their secondary education. The program includes business-related courses, as well as English language and university preparation courses.

The Foundation Studies Program is a two semester program. Regular assessment and feedback is provided to students throughout the program across all courses.

University Preparation Program (UNIPREP)

UNIPREP is a short one semester intensive program that offers a transition to higher education for international students with English as a Second Language, and for students not fully prepared in Academic English for tertiary study in Australia.

The University Council has approved UNIPREP as the official program for international students to study English to gain entry to USQ degrees.

The program focuses on developing academic English language skills, academic research and referencing techniques, study skills, and independent learning strategies. The program starts in March, July and November each year.

English Language Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS)

ELICOS is an Australian program designed for students who wish to improve their English Language skills. Students choose an ELICOS course for a variety of reasons. Some students hope to:

  • Improve their English before going to a high school in Australia
  • Use English for travel purposes
  • Take a break from their studies at home

International students seeking to enrol in ELICOS programs at Springfield are recommended to contact our preferred ELICOS supplier Union Institute of Language (UIL). UIL is based in the World Knowledge Centre in Education City, Springfield, and is adjacent to the USQ Springfield campus.
