Career Mentoring Program

Exposure to industry and networks with industry professionals is very important to the development of employability and industry skills. The Career Mentoring Program allows students and industry professionals to connect and discuss issues relating to their industry, possible career path options, and exposure to the practical professional environment. Students are matched with a mentor from their discipline of study and are given the responsibility to manage and drive this professional relationship for the six month duration. Mentoring pairs meet regularly (monthly, fortnightly, or weekly) to discuss issues relating to the students professional development.

Many previous mentoring pairs have gone on to continue their professional mentoring relationship after the completion of the program and some have gained work experience and employment from the program. The purpose of the program is to provide students with a greater understanding about their chosen industry and career path options, as well as develop a network of professionals.
Registrations for students open soon.

Employer Visits

Employers will come on campus throughout the year to talk to students about various career pathways in their organisation. Whether that be industry experience, full time work or graduate programs. It is highly beneficial for students to meet with the various employers and gain valuable knowledge about their chosen industry and the different avenues to achieve them. Watch this space for up and coming visits.

Career Library

Each campus provides students with resources and materials to assist with employment information and application preparation. The Toowoomba campus has a career library called ‘The Work Shop' located in R Block mall next to Heritage bank. Students can look through the employer brochures and publications, search for jobs on the computers, and get their resumes checked by the friendly staff. ‘The Work Shop' is open from 10am-3pm Monday –Friday. Springfield and Fraser Coast campuses have Careers & Employment resources areas where students can collect information to assist with the career journey.

The Online Career Library is designed to provide employment information to distance students. It provides many sites relating to career planning, job search, job application, and employer sites. The ‘Graduate Employers' link lists the USQ study disciplines and some of the employers that recruit graduates in that discipline.

Graduate Program Publications

If you are graduating in 2009 don't forget to collect your graduate publications. Graduate Opportunities, Unigrad, and Graduate Careers are the three main publications that list graduate jobs across the country. They are excellent resources and provide a great deal of information about the companies and application procedures. Some graduate program applications close soon so hurry and get your copy from the Careers & Employment office at your campus.
