Stress management

Stress management programs are offered by Student Services to assist students to manage their stress.  Alternatively, you can arrange an appointment with a personal counsellor to work through stress management strategies on an individual basis.

Managing stress

Keys to effective stress management include:

  • understanding how stress impacts on us ie physical symptoms, psychological symptoms, and behavioural symptoms
  • understanding how your personality, thinking style, and perception of the world impacts on your experience of stress
  • the six Rs of stress management:
    • responsibility
    • reflection
    • relaxation
    • relationships
    • refueling
    • recreation.
  • stress is a state of mind and body, a perception of the environment around you
  • one can reduce stress by planning, setting goals, effective time management, and positive self-talk
  • one can cope with stress by:
    • relaxing
    • doing breathing and relaxation exercises
    • maintaining a healthy life style, a healthy diet, and maintaining a level of exercise.
