Student responsibilities
Whilst Disability Resources is here to provide advocacy and support for students with disabilities and long term medical condtions, we do encourage students to maintain a level of self advocacy in dealing with any issues that may be impacting upon their studies.
Where a suitable outcome can't be reached, Disability Resources can assist with further advocacy on the students behalf.
Assignment extensions
Students should make a request for assignment extension via email directly to the examiner. Approval of an extension is dependent on your circumstances, the particular course and the examiner, however two weeks from the original deadline is recommended.
Note: Students who are experiencing difficulties with this negotiation should contact Disability Resources for assistance.
Introducing Support Workers
As a courtesy we recommend you introduce your support workers to relevant lecturers/examiners. The examiners will then be aware of their presence within lectures, tutorials etc and not be inclined to include them in class activities.
Examination Adjustments
Exam accommodations are usually recommended during your initial appointment and entered into the universities administrative system. Each semester the Disability Resource Officer will negotiate approval of the accommodations on your behalf. Students who feel their current exam accommodations may need to be revised should make an appointment with Disability Resources as early as possible prior to discuss what is required.
Students can check information about their exams on UConnect. An assessment advice is mailed to each student prior to each exam period, please check the advice carefully and notify us of any errors.
Note: Students are responsible for meeting any recommended guidelines required (eg guidelines for using an A4 prompt sheet or working with a scribe in an exam situation)
