Scholarships and financial assistance

Studying at university is not only challenging on an academic level, but also on a financial level.  The following information is provided to assist students manage their finances while studying.

Commonwealth Scholarships

The Commonwealth Scholarships (CS) Program is to assist students from the following Equity groups:

  • Rural and regional,
  • those experiencing financial hardship,
  • Language Background other than English (LBOTES),
  • students with disabilities and
  • Indigenous students.

They must be Australian citizens or holders of permanent humanitarian visas, with costs associated with higher education. 

USQ Equity Scholarships

The Equity Scholarship Program is to assist student from the following Equity groups:

  • Rural and regional,
  • those experiencing financial hardship,
  • Language Background other than English (LBOTES),
  • students with disabilities and
  • Indigenous students.

They must be Australian citizens or holders of permanent humanitarian visas, with costs associated with higher education. 

USQ Scholarships

USQ offers students numerous scholarships including faculty, university and sporting scholarships. USQ recognises excellence in areas such as academic achievement, community service and leadership.

Employer Scholarships

USQ is contacted by employers who offer scholarships to students to study and work, either part-time or over holiday breaks.  Search for these scholarships in CareerHub by logging in with your USQconnect username and password.

Endeavour Awards Program

The Endeavour Programme is an Australian Government initiative, bringing together under the one umbrella all of the Department of Education, Science and Training's international scholarships. The awards enable high-achieving scholars and professionals from around the world to undertake study, research or professional development in Australia and allow Australians to do the same abroad.

Loans Scheme

USQ maintains a loans scheme to assist students whose overall welfare and academic progress is at risk through financial pressures.

Budgeting

Preparing a budget can help students plan for regular expenses and make informed decisions about their financial standing.

Centrelink

Centrelink's purpose is to assist people to become more self sufficient, while supporting those in need. A growing number of our student services are available through online self service. Information about study support payments such as the Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY, ABSTUDY, the Pensioner Education Supplement and the Student Financial Supplement Scheme is available from Centrelink

Employment

Many full time students find that they have to supplement other forms of income by seeking suitable part-time, casual or vacation work. Information and assistance can be obtained from the Careers and Employment Service at Student Services. Other sources of information about work are Centrelink, employment agencies, and newspaper advertisements.

Student Contribution Amount (formerly HECS)

Fee information for USQ domestic students is available and includes details about the Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP), Student Contribution Amounts, Student Learning Entitlement and Commonwealth supported places.
