RATIONALE:

The curriculum of a school is not developed or implemented in a vacuum. Each school is part of a wider educational environment in which there are numerous forces at various levels which act upon curriculum development and in particular the elements of curriculum design.

The influences on selected syllabus documents will be studied by an examination of some current curriculum issues and their impact on curriculum change and design.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. examine the macro and micro level influences shaping the total school curriculum.
  2. identify specific influences on curricula and recognize their implications for curriculum design.
