This unit provides the student with important music skills which supplement Performance units. Important elements in the development of a musician are aural awareness and a knowledge of music writing techniques.
This unit provides a knowledge of writing techniques employed by composers of different periods in musical history and enables students to gain experience in using and further developing these techniques. It also facilitates aural acuity relating to pitch, melody, rhythm, tempo, dynamics, harmony and form, and assists in an aural awareness of subtle stylistic nuances and shadings in different interpretive philosophies. Each succeeding Music Craft unit further develops this acuity.
On successful completion of this unit students will have:

- Chromatic harmony, melody writing, setting words to music, the writing of simple piano accompaniments and the basic principles of 2-part counterpoint;
- MODULE B - AURAL TRAINING AND PERCEPTION 50.00
- A systematic and regular series of classes designed to awaken aural awareness in all students and to provide them with a foundation in aural perception.
