RATIONALE:

This unit is designed to provide the graduate with important skills ancillary to the main thrust of their instrumental or vocal studies.


SYNOPSIS:

This unit includes solo and ensemble performance. For Performance and Orchestral Playing students, the unit will enable ensemble experience as well as the development of a working knowledge of some of the more important parts of the orchestral and choral repertoire. For Teaching students, the unit will further enhance knowledge of solo, advanced duo, chamber music, orchestral and teaching repertoire. Keyboard players will develop greater skills in accompanying and chamber music, whilst singers will become more familiar with both concert and stage ensemble repertoire. Students will select the module related to their specialisation, vis. Performance or Teaching (Studio).


OBJECTIVES:

On successful completion of this unit students will have acquired advanced skills in performing areas relevant to their specialisation. These are:

  1. PERFORMANCE (i) knowledge of repertoire that will enhance their practical and technical skills; (ii) important skills in ensemble performance - orchestral and chamber music.
  2. TEACHING (i) experience in more difficult solo and chamber music repertoire, and/or accompanying; (ii) practical experience in larger ensembles. The standard achieved on the successful completion of this unit will be higher than that achieved in unit 91907.

  1. STUDENTS OF ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTS (i) regular attendance at rehearsals for the USQ Student Orchestra, the USQ Sinfonia and the Toowoomba Concert Orchestra; (ii) regular participation in other ensemble activities in which their instrumental specialisation forms a part; (iii) regular participation in chamber music classes as prescribed by the unit examiner;

  2. STUDENTS OF KEYBOARD INSTRUMENTS (i) attendance at rehearsals and other classes involving chamber music, duo work, and/or accompaniment;

  3. SINGING STUDENTS (i) All singing students will be required to participate in specified duet, trio, chamber music and choral activities.
