RATIONALE:

This unit is designed to permit the student to develop solo performance skills to an advanced level, allowing for a greater degree of musical and technical specialisation than is possible at the undergraduate level.

SYNOPSIS:

A highly developed technique with enhanced interpretive skills is crucial to the artistic progress of any professional performer. Through advanced training and experience in these areas of expertise, the student will have the opportunity to develop from student to professional status. Instrumental repertoire will include either the performance of a major concerto or presentation of a recital. Vocal students may choose to emphasise stage or concert repertoire but both should be included. The standard achieved in the successful completion of this unit will be higher than that achieved in unit 91910.

OBJECTIVES:

On successful completion of this unit, students will exhibit a high degree of technical skill in their playing or singing, together with a similar degree of artistry and musical insight not only in performance but in an understanding of the works performed and in the related repertoire.
