Year No. Offer Mode Description Cred. Pts 96 E3002 S12 X TRADE PRACTICE 1.00
This unit seeks to expose students to the work undertaken by tradesmen and to develop practical skills in a wide range of workshop techniques. A sound practical foundation to the design, analysis, maintenance and industrial management functions of the engineering associate and technologist is essential if the graduate is to communicate effectively with skilled tradesmen. Theoretical aspects of metal cutting and forming operations, and fabrication, are covered in other units of the course. Those students with trade qualifications in fitting and turning will normally be exempted from this unit.
Upon successful completion of this unit, a student should be able to:

1 The workload in this unit consists of directed 'in work'
experience which is usually attained at student's place of
employment, local engineering firms or at TAFE Colleges. For
those students who are unable to complete the normal requirements
of the unit locally, practical work will be scheduled for the
residential school period and conducted on campus. Attendance at
residential school is therefore not compulsory except for those
few students who are unable to satisfactorily complete the unit
off campus.
2 If all exercises cannot be completed during the normal
residential school period students may be required to attend
extra sessions. These sessions will be timetabled by the
examiner and are likely to run on campus during the week
immediately following semester two exams. NOTE: The additional
sessions are only for those students who have already attended
the normal residential school period.
3 In order to pass the unit students must successfully complete all
practical exercises. A non graded pass is awarded in this unit.
