Synopsis



This unit will be first offered in 1996.  The unit exposes students to
the theories, practices and processes of management and leadership  in
organisations.    Students  will  examine  the  changing   nature   of
organisations within today's turbulent business environment, and  they
will  be  introduced  to  traditional and contemporary  principles  of
management,  and  their  application to organisational  problems.   In
addition,  students will examine the leadership skills and  attributes
that are essential for people in management positions.  Management and
Leadership   will   be   explored  from  a  comparative   perspective,
investigating   varying  approaches  to  management  and   leadership.
Current  issues facing managers will also be explored.   These  issues
will  include ethics in management and leadership, quality management,
international  management, managing diversity in  the  workforce,  and
developing leadership potential.
