Synopsis

This  unit  discusses the nature of the fossil record and  the  rocks  in  which
fossils  occur with the purpose of understanding the nature of Earth's  life  in
the past and the environments in which organisms lived.  It deals with
(a) changes which have occurred in the organisms and the environments, and
(b) reasons for and significance of these changes.


This unit will be relevant to:
i)   anyone  generally  interested in the natural physical  environment  of  the
     earth and its biodiversity;
ii)  potential primary and secondary education teachers;
iii) those planning careers in environmental and earth sciences.
