Synopsis

This unit is structured around a CAD/CAM/CAE facility and will provide
students with an understanding of the operation and limitations of CAE
systems, and provide the basic techniques and methods used in computer
aided engineering. Material presented will include - the architecture
of CAE systems, numerical methods, computer graphics, engineering
methods of CAE, optimisation, parametric modelling, technical
information management system. The advantage of CAE process is
demonstrated by several engineering assignments that students must
complete on the CAE facility throughout the semester, including the
design and manufacture of parts by modern technologies such as
stereolithography and/or CNC machining.
