Synopsis

A  prerequisite  to  Primary Curriculum B  this  unit  in  mathematics
education aims to provide students with an understanding of the  basic
principles  on which the Queensland primary mathematics  programme  is
based.    They  will  become  familiar  with  the  various  curriculum
documents   and  develop  an  awareness  of  the  needs  of   teaching
Mathematics.  Available resources will be examined and techniques will
be  developed for teaching those topics related to number, numeration,
operations  and the application of number.  Students will  develop  an
awareness  of  the peculiar needs of teaching the subject  and  become
familiar  with  techniques  for presenting  materials  with  a  mainly
student-centred approach.
