A substantial programme of research will be performed by the student, the prime purpose being to give the student experience in carrying out biological research.
This unit involves students in a research project which will be supervised by a member of staff with appropriate expertise. It may consist of pure or developmental research in an important area of biology and be based on experimental work conducted either within the University or elsewhere in conjunction with a government or private organisation. At the conclusion of their research program students are required to submit a detailed research thesis. Biology Honours Project A and B need to be undertaken in consecutive semesters, overall Honours grades being determined in accordance with Biology Honours program guidelines.
On successful completion of this unit students will have:

- Biology Honours Thesis Four typed copies of the research thesis, presented in the format typical of a post-graduate thesis, must be submitted to the examiner of this unit by the due date.
Such journals, monographs and other printed materials appropriate for
the research topic chosen.

1 In accordance with University policy and Guidelines,
1.1 an Examiner may grant an extension of the due date of an
assignment in extenuating circumstances;
1.2 no assignments will be accepted for assessment purposes after
assignments or model solutions have been released except in
extenuating circumstances;
1.3 assignments submitted after the due date without any extenuating
circumstances will attract a penalty of at most 20% of the
assignment mark for each working day late;
1.4 students who submit an assignment after the due date and wish to
claim extenuating circumstances, must provide documentary
evidence with the assignment explaining the circumstances;
1.5 the unit examiner shall consider a claim for extenuating
circumstances and decide on the outcome;
1.6 the decision of the Dean shall be final in any dispute that may
arise in the implementation of these guidelines.
