Graduates in the Visual Arts are expected to have an understanding of issues and responsibilities related to a profession in the arts. This unit is designed to provide information and procedures that will assist in preparing the artist to function competently and professionally in a visual arts career. Students will appreciate the role of art criticism and theory and will be involved in making informed aesthetic decisions. The practical application of research, the ability to be articulate about their own work and be constructive in their discussion of the work of others will be particularly valuable for those students applying for post-graduate study. Where appropriate, input will be provided by occasional visiting arts professionals involved in arts practice and the arts industry, as well as specialist staff within the University.
