SYNOPSIS:

The study of dramatic texts provides insights into human experiences and places these experiences in the context of society. This unit examines the history, theory, texts and practice of the major Western Theatre developments between the restoration of theatre in England and the establishment of the Moscow Art Theatre.


OBJECTIVES:

On successful completion of this unit students will have:

  1. a knowledge of the theory and practice of theatre at specific
    times and in particular places from 1660-1898;
  2. an understanding of how the theatre of this period helped
    shape the Western Theatre tradition;
  3. a detailed knowledge of specific texts drawn from the period.
