Synopsis

This  unit  introduces students to the powers and capabilities  of  an
integrated  software  package LOTUS (1-2-3) and  its  applications  in
accounting. Practical use of the software package is an integral  part
of the unit.

The  purpose of the unit is to provide the student with knowledge  and
skills:

-  required  by  an  accountant to use an integrated software  package
(LOTUS 1-2-3);

-  to  specify,  evaluate,  select  and  finally  acquire  a  personal
computer, and appropriate compatible software;

-  to  design  a  spreadsheet for its optimum use,  and  apply  design
techniques for many varied applications in the accounting area;

-  to  identify the importance and impact integrated software packages
are having on businesses and professions.

Enrolment in this unit requires continuous access to an IBM PC or  IBM
compatible microcomputer either via a student's own arrangements or  a
USQ study centre, as well as access to LOTUS 1-2-3.

NOTE: Bachelor of Commerce students commencing from S1 1997 will enrol
in either unit 75001 or this unit 51120 as one of their core units.
