Synopsis

This  unit  examines the total information system planning  cycle.  It
focuses  on  the  management issues concerned  with  specification  of
information  systems  requirements  to  achieve  corporate  goals   by
emphasising the integration of information systems planning  into  the
strategic  planning  process. A range of  methodologies  for  deriving
information  requirements  for the various levels  of  management  are
examined,  including soft systems methodologies and data-oriented  and
process-oriented  approaches.  Some  of  the  latest  automated  aids,
including  computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools,  for  the
planning,  development and implementation of information  systems  are
evaluated.   The  unit  also  covers  user  education  strategies   to
facilitate acceptance and utilisation of information technology.
