Synopsis

Today's engineer needs to be well versed in the latest manufacturing
processes and techniques. Moreover a level of understanding needs to
be developed such that the engineer can be the agent through which
these processes can be introduced to industry. This not only means
the cutting edge of modern manufacturing needs to be known but also
how it can be applied to particular industries.

Polymers (plastics) processing is an important part in modern
manufacturing. Mechanical engineers should have an appreciation of
the complex behaviours of polymeric liquids under various processing
conditions. The understanding of such behaviours is relevant both in
the design as well as the operation of the associated polymers
processing machineries. Such understanding also plays an important
role in successful design of plastic products.
