Synopsis
Building construction and the provision of building services are two
of the key elements of the engineer's involvement with the building
industry. This unit seeks to provide the student with a detailed
knowledge of the methods, techniques and equipment used in the
building industry, and to enable the graduate to correctly assess the
adequacy of techniques and equipment proposed for a building.
It is also important that the civil engineer have an appreciation of
the architectural aspects of building design and construction, and of
the contribution of other engineering disciplines (eg mechanical and
electrical engineering) to building projects. This unit is intended to
provide this background.
