Synopsis

In studying this unit students will come to an understanding of the
scientific process. They will appreciate how children think about
science and learn science. Students in this unit will research a wide
variety of curricula and strategies, through independent and
collaborative study, that will advance science education in primary
schools. Leadership skills in science education will be promoted
together with an ability to analyse critically the literature on
science education methodologies. Problem-solving skills will be
advocated in the unit and an attitude to science that incorporates
honesty, open-mindedness and information sharing will be promoted. The
unit will incorporate a recognition of the social, ethical, values and
responsibility needs in science education. Studies in this unit will
confirm that effective science teaching plays a significant role in
the overall development of children including their independent
thinking and autonomy.
