Synopsis
This unit extends the work presented in the two core curriculum units
and provides a link to those other curriculum units available for
study at post- graduate level. This unit will relate both theoretical
and practical knowledge of curriculum decision making and curriculum
processes to an educational context in which the majority of graduates
will find employment.
In this unit, students will participate in a simulated school based
curriculum development and coordination activity. Staff meetings,
parent meetings, workshops and other appropriate situations will
involve participants in activities which model all facets of the
school based process. From the pressures and tensions of interactions
with colleagues, being limited to the use of available physical and
human resources, involvement in committee work, sharing of
responsibility, incorporating external influences, conducting needs
assessments, document analyses to becoming aware of the politics of
communication, students will be asked to immerse themselves in the
tasks as active participants. Throughout this process, current
influences will be incorporated into on-going decisions (Student
Performance Standards, Wiltshire Report, Student Profiles, appropriate
QDE policies on Social Justice, Corporate Plans, School Development
Plans etc.)
