Synopsis
This unit seeks to expose students to the work undertaken by tradesmen
and to develop practical skills in a wide range of workshop
techniques. A sound practical foundation to the design, analysis,
maintenance and industrial management functions of the engineering
associate and technologist is essential if the graduate is to
communicate effectively with skilled tradesmen. Theoretical aspects of
metal cutting and forming operations, and fabrication, are covered in
other units of the course.
Those students with trade qualifications in fitting and turning will
normally be exempted from this unit.
