SYNOPSIS:

The purpose of this practice unit is to provide experimental support for level two of all internal courses and level three of all external courses in Electrical and Electronic, Computer Systems and Instrumentation and Control Engineering. Students of Mechatronic Engineering will also require this unit. Engineering practice skills, such as the ability to perform practical and project work, innovation, problem identification and solution and engineering judgement will be developed as the students progress through their course. The development of communication skills is also encouraged in the engineering practice units. This practice unit will also reinforce the learning of theory and develop observation and interpretation skills and to stimulate interest and develop self confidence. The unit provides equipment familiarisation with control including the examination of first and second order systems as well as microprocessor programming and peripherals, measurements for AC and DC power systems and PCB design.

OBJECTIVES:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able
to:

  1. Demonstrate engineering practice skills in control,
    microprocessors and power measurement.
  2. Utilise library and computing facilities to prepare an
    experimental report.
