Synopsis

This unit builds on the knowledge gained in 51180 Local Government and
examines the specific powers of local government in Queensland, with
regard to land use planning, development control and environmental
protection, placing particular emphasis on the statutory provisions
regarding town planning, development approval and subdivision. As
well, students will study building control, environmental management
and control, traffic control, health and welfare.

Note: Following the University's decision in late 1996 to `phase out'
the BBus (Local Government) major, this unit will be offered for the
last time in 1998. As such, any continuing students who still wish to
complete the Local Government major - and are yet to complete this
unit - must do so in 1998.
