Synopsis

The  impact  of legal issues on the educational environment  has  been
highlighted in recent years. Greater accountability demands  from  the
community,  increased pressures on schools to assume  societal  roles,
growing  awareness  of litigious avenues for resolution  of  conflicts
have  all  led to an increased awareness of the legal aspects  of  the
educational process.

In  this  unit,  it will be assumed that students will have  had  some
experience  in  an  educational  context.  The  topics  covered   will
introduce  students to generic legal issues which have  relevance  for
teachers  at all levels. The unit aims to inform students about  legal
aspects of education, about the impact of the law on their educational
practice.
