SYNOPSIS:

This unit is a continuation of studies in the technical areas of the theatre for those students who wish to pursue a career in the live entertainment industry. It provides study, training and, where possible, practical experience in the duties, procedures and responsibilities of the Head Electrician, Lighting Designer, Sound Designer and Theatre Technician.


OBJECTIVES:

On successful completion of this unit the student will:

  1. demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the duties and practice of
    a technician (lighting/sound);
  2. demonstrate advanced skills in assigned areas of a technician
    (lighting/sound);
  3. demonstrate a thorough practical understanding and awareness
    of technical and artistic staff interaction;
  4. demonstrate an aptitude to work in a professional theatre
    environment as a Lighting/Sound Technician.

1    Students  will  be required to attend no less  than  80%  of  the
     classes held and the missing of more than two consecutive classes
     through   illness  will  require  the  production  of  a  medical
     certificate.
2    Special  attention  will  be  paid  to  the  development   of   a
     professional work method approach.
3    Assessment is continuous.
4    Students must successfully pass ALL assessment areas.
5    The  final  grade will be based on the total for  all  assessment
     items and will be assigned in accord with Faculty guidelines.
