Synopsis

Students as they undertake units in the Master of Applied Linguistics
relate what they study to their experiences and in the process of
doing so become interested in particular aspects of the teaching and
learning of second languages in contexts with which they are familiar.
An Independent Study Unit in TSL will give such students an
opportunity to pursue directed study in an area of their own choice.

Students will negotiate with the co-ordinator of the Master of Applied
Linguistics the area within the field of second language teaching that
will be the object of the independent study. Details of the study will
be negotiated with the student and a lecturer assigned to supervise
the study. Since it is a 500 level unit, students will have to
demonstrate rigour with which they have approached this study.
