Synopsis
In order that engineering and surveying practitioners continue to
provide the services expected of them, they must be good communicators
and capable of balancing the needs of society in such a way as to
enable sustainable development. These needs include a viable natural
environment and an equitable and satisfying community.
The purpose of this unit is to introduce students to engineering and
surveying in a stimulating way and to provide them with some
understanding and skills which will enable them to operate
effectively. Areas covered in approximately equal parts will be the
nature of engineering and surveying, the interactions of engineering
and surveying with society and the environment, and communications
skills. These areas are covered by a series of Australian case studies
in Engineering and Surveying.
