Synopsis

Unit is designed to:

(i)    acquaint  students  with a wide range of  pollution  and  waste
       management  issues (including air, water and  noise  pollution;
       solid  waste  disposal;  bioremediation;  and  the  setting  of
       emission and quality standards);

(ii)   provide  students  with  the knowledge to  assess  and  develop
       solutions for these issues;

(iii)  provide   an  understanding  of  the  roles  and  methodologies
       involved  in  environmental  impact  assessment,  environmental
       management  plans  and ISO 14000, monitoring and  environmental
       audits; and

(iv)   provide   an   awareness  of  modern  environmental  protection
       legislation.
