Synopsis

Consideration is given to the need for the teachers of Language and
Literacy to familiarise themselves with the theoretical structures
which serve as the basis for instruction in this area. This focus,
coming at the third level, enables the student to deal with planning
from a theoretical framework since content has been covered in the
previous two years. Special emphasis is given to Children's Literature
as a vehicle for the development of a theory of Language and Literacy
instruction which reflects current methodological techniques and
recent advances in language learning. Emphasis is given to developing
the student's attitudes and habits in reading through undertaking of
personal reading.
