Synopsis

In this unit students explore the contribution to the curriculum
process of the disciplines of philosophy, sociology and psychology.
They are provided with the opportunity to analyse the assumptions and
beliefs on which the different approaches to the curriculum process
are based and investigate, from research, the manner in which
individual teachers appear to approach the curriculum process. Through
a critically reflective orientation to curriculum work, students begin
to develop their own theories that will influence their curriculum
development and implementation.

Evaluation is emphasised in every phase of the process. Students
participate in the curriculum process during the school experience for
this semester. From this they become aware of the implications for
planning, developing and implementing curricula whether regional/
central based, school based or classroom based.
