Synopsis

In this unit students will explore the contribution to the curriculum
process of the disciplines of philosophy, sociology and psychology.
They will be provided with the opportunity to analyse the assumptions
and beliefs on which the different approaches to the curriculum
process are based and investigate from research the manner in which
individual teachers appear to approach the curriculum process. Through
a critically reflective orientation to curriculum work, students will
develop their own theories that will influence their curriculum
development and implementation. Evaluation is emphasised in every
phase of the process. Students will participate in the curriculum
process during the school based practicum for this semester. From this
they will become aware of the implications for planning, developing,
implementing and evaluating curricula whether regional/ central based,
school based or classroom based.
