The purpose of this practice unit is to provide experimental support for the 2nd and 3rd level of day courses, and the 4th level of all external courses in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering and Instrumentation and Control Engineering. This practice unit provides equipment familiarisation and safety information, experience with prototyping together with experimental work in Rotating Machines, Transformers and Power Systems, Assembly Language and Interrupt Programming, Software Team Design, Electronic Circuit Testing, Component and Circuit Characteristics, Waveform Analysis and Transmission Lines. The principle objectives are to allow the student to develop practical skills; a knowledge of devices, equipment and techniques; reinforce the learning of theory; develop observation and interpretation skills; stimulate interest and develop self confidence.
On successful completion of this unit students will be able
to:

1 Attendance at a minimum of 80% of practical and/or residential
school sessions is compulsory for a passing grade to be awarded
in this unit.
2 If students submit assignments after the due date without prior
approval then a penalty of up to 20% of the assignment total
marks will apply for each working day late.
3 The only final grades awarded in this unit are Pass (P) or Fail
(F) grades.
4 A minimum standard of communication skills must be demonstrated
in order for a passing grade to be achieved.
5 This is a COMMUNICATION BENCHMARK unit and a major component of
the assessment of this unit will be associated with the
demonstration of communication skills.
