Synopsis

Students seeking careers in business, education and government need to
develop an understanding of the way firms operate within their
individual market structure or industrial environment. They also need
to acquire the analytical tools to investigate information flows and
factor productivity and to evaluate firm and industry performance.
This unit uses selected microeconomic theory to analyse resource
markets and industrial activity. Particular characteristics of the
emerging information industry are identified and explored. Alternative
views on industrial development and the role of government in the
industrial development process are presented. Emphasis is placed on
exploring activities of firms and industries within contemporary
markets.
