Synopsis
This unit is a method unit, which focuses on the methods for teaching
children numeration and computation in the primary school. Students
will discuss, adapt and refine particular teaching methods as a way of
developing both their competence in the method and their skill in the
pedagogy. The study of the unit revolves around a series of video
taped teaching episodes involving a student teacher, a teacher
educator and a child. The unit may be studied either internally or
externally or through a combination of both. It has been designed in a
way that allows the student maximum autonomy, flexibility and
responsibility for his/her own studies. There are no formal classes as
such. For those students who choose to study the unit on campus there
will be weekly meetings chaired by a member of staff and run
independently by the students.
