SYNOPSIS:

This unit is a continuation of studies in technical production areas of theatre for those students who wish to pursue a career in the live entertainment industry. It provides advanced study, training and experience of the Deputy Stage Manager/Theatre Practitioner including the development of the physical stage and aspects in mounting a production. Special attention will be paid to the development of a professional work method approach.


OBJECTIVES:

On successful completion of this unit students will:

  1. demonstrate a knowledge of the duties of the Deputy Stage
    Manager, and/or senior technical or administrative position;
  2. demonstrate advanced skills as a Deputy Stage Manager, and/or
    senior technical or administrative position;
  3. demonstrate a practical understanding and awareness of
    production and artistic staff interaction as a Deputy Stage
    Manager;
  4. demonstrate a developing aptitude to work in the
    arts/entertainment industries;
  5. demonstrate ability in oral communication skills and the
    generation of production documentation.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1    In  order  to meet unit objectives, students will be required  to
     attend  no  less than 80% of the classes held and the missing  of
     more  than  two consecutive classes through illness will  require
     the production of a doctor's certificate.
2    Assessment is continuous.
3    Students are expected at all times to be prepared for work and co-
     operative.   Time  management  and  organisational   skills   are
     particularly valued.
4    Students must satisfactorily pass ALL assessment items.
5    The  final  grade will be based on the total for  all  assessment
     items and will be assigned in accord with Faculty guidelines.
