Synopsis

Management and leadership are critical challenges for any
organisation. The contemporary environment of business demands that
managers are effective leaders also. This unit examines the
contemporary nature of management, and then examines organisational
leadership in detail. The emerging operationalisation of the 'new
leadership' is a particular concentration of this unit. Students will
examine the concept of leadership as well as its manifestation in
organisations. This unit has a practical focus. Management and
Leadership is a valuable elective unit, as well as being a key
component of the Strategic HRM major. Students should have had at
least 3 years full-time work experience before they attempt this unit.
