Synopsis

The use of Internet technology in business-to-business (B2B) and
business-to-customer (B2C) transactions is growing exponentially. In
many cases transactions are initiated and managed via the Internet,
but product has to be physically delivered. In these cases the cost
of physical delivery is the key element in profitability. This is the
subject matter of supply chain analysis. This unit introduces the
concept of the supply chain, broadly defined to include both design
and management aspects. The unit also provides a basis for analysing
the economic costs and benefits of alternative supply chains.
