Synopsis

This unit focuses on exploring economic and political theory that can
be used to interpret economic growth and development experiences and
to inform the choice, implementation and assessment of development
policies. The experience of selected world economic and political
systems is explored to provide a context for drawing conclusions about
the success or otherwise of different policy settings, political
systems and institutional arrangements. Particular emphasis is placed
upon globalisation, global institutions, income and wealth
distribution and the link between economics and politics in economic
development. Students may choose to do case studies on particular
countries.
